ThinkAchieve Course Work
Below are some of the courses I took that earned ThinkAchieve credit. The courses range from ones taken with the Honors College to other applicable courses taken for my major and my minor. Each course has its course description along with additional information regarding the class.
First Year Studies: The UTC Experience
|
Course Description: An introduction to the University academic environment, including the nature and purpose of a college education, expectations for academic success, learning beyond the classroom, academic and career planning, and student engagement resources and opportunities at UTC and within the Chattanooga community.
The First Year Studies class really forced me to get out of my comfort zone and to be apart of my school and Chattanooga. I got to know people I wouldn't have, I got to experience Chattanooga in unique ways, and I made some of the greatest friends. For me, this first semester really solidified that UTC was the school for me and that my time here would be even better than I could have imagined. |
Innovations in Honors
Course Description: First course in a required two-course sequence in which students problem-solve on behalf of a community or campus partner. Students will learn applied creative practices as well as collaborate in small groups in order to begin the foundation research needed to answer the most pressing questions in our community.
Course Description: Second course in a required two-course sequence in which students problem-solve on behalf of a community or campus partner. Students will apply and revise the research they completed in Innovation Lab I and compile a solution proposal and action plan for putting the proposal in place.
Innovations pushed me even further out of my comfort zone because it meant thinking and doing without following a set of rules or a rubric. I am very much so a process person, which is not compatible with the innovation process. That being said, this class really taught be a lot, not just about the innovation process, but also that it's okay to get stuck and have to take a few steps back to see another answer or that doing things differently can be beneficial too. Management Concepts, Theories, and Practice
|
Course Description: Principles of management focusing on the processes of strategic and intermediate term planning, organizing, human resource management, leadership, motivation, groups, communication and controlling. Topics also include the history of management as well as current trends in the discipline.
Management Concepts, Theories, and Practice provided a fun and unique way to experience the topics we were discussing in class. Professor Dockery had a few speakers who were able to provide real life instances of concepts from class. The group run cafe assignment allowed us to make further connections to concepts as well as to truly see the ins and outs of running a business and all of the decisions that go into it. |
